If you're talking to Bob use his name for a start to avoid this kind of problem. You ARE pissing someone off at the moment. The fact that you're not a christian doesn't give you the right to have a go at them. Will happily leave you alone when you learn tact and internet etiquette.

Meh. Done ranting for the night. Please try to be less blunt though, will help a lot in the future.

And God said: "Let there be Pamela Anderson",
and then he finds out he's wasting his time with minor things like light and earth.

And there was no more "Let there be..."s. The universe was now full of beautifull things to God

Ah, yet another religious thread. :)

And God said, 'Let there be light' and there was light, but the Electricity Board said He would have to wait until Thursday to be connected.

But God left man to discover electricity and subsequently use it to make light so, when man in turn devised the light switch, it did not occur to God to give one to Elliott Carter with the words "when the last human being has left my Earth, will you please turn this off"...

It never ceases to amaze me how many threads that Elliott Carter can be squeezed into.

Perhaps God is aware of the damage to the Earth and uses energy-saving lightbulbs. I assume He realises that when He switches on the lightbulbs, everyone will be sitting in near-darkness for about half-an-hour whilst the lightbulbs heat up.

I wonder if that might be in part down to the fact that his father was a lace importer by profession?

Shame the son did not take after his father.

I don't think so; as far as I am aware, Mr Carter senior was not at all successful at his professional activities. Elliott Carter did, however, accompany his father to Europe on business trips on several occasions when he was very young and this is how he became fluent in French at a very early age.

This thread does not, however, have either the composer or his father as its subject, so I imagine that reference to each of them in it has by now pretty well outlived any usefulness it may ever have had...
