I used to own a Chickering Upright Grand from the late 19th century. What a fabulous piano that was. They were made with a cast-iron frame, unlike most uprights, and the bass strings were a lot longer than most uprights. Only problem was it weighed a ton (well, half a ton) and was a real bear to move, especially if stairs were involved!
But unfortunately a quick Google suggests you might not be able to get one for $6000 any more. I sold mine for $1600 because I was stupid.
