When did Samic purchase Bechstein?
on: March 10, 2008, 02:20:39 PM
All,

I am planning to purchase a Bechstein, the seller told me that the piano is prior Samic era. Could you please advise me when Samic purchased Bechstein.

Thanks,
RS

Never.
They bought a few shares in a deal with Bechstein.  As I remember it helped Samick into Europe and Bechstein into the USA.

Samick has injected some of their quality control issues into the Bechstein uprights unfortunately. Like anything else, cost cutting to save tush. The Bechstein grands are still as good as they've always been.
Its a shame, but the manufacturers of lesser pianos are going to thrive because most homeowners can't afford 25-75k for a piano. So, they go for the 7-8K Young Chang or the little more expensive Samick.

I now have a Samick - but in a few weeks should I buy a Young Chang instead, it is the way I see it, a much better piano.
It is sad that Bechstein became a partner with Samick, I think.
