Mysterious sunken cathedral appears!
on: March 24, 2008, 10:00:06 PM
Oooooooooo!  :D

Rising out of the water, like Debussy's music.

It only sticks around for awhile though.  It's been a few years since it was seen here last.

You can hop on the thread and follow along if you like.

That's not quite what I thought it would look like, but I can't find a better one for now.  I saw more green and blue in my mind.  Sun glistening.  Out in the ocean.  A little more sea like and impressionistic.

I hope the cathedral is/was watertight... just imagine trying to get the seaweed and barnacles out of the organ pipes!

There is supposedly a sunken cathedral between Lands End and Scilly Isles in UK.

It was part of the now underwater kingdom of Lyoness. On stormy nights, you can hear the bell toll.

So legend has it.

Now I can't delete this thread.  It will have to sink down into one of the boards.  To rise again another day.  For now, it's just moving....

You're not one of the bellringers there, Thal, are you, by chance? (I know it's rather a long swim from St. Kilda, but I'm sure you could make the trip on the back of a mermaid without any problem...)

Anyway, the extent to which this may or may not be a legend will presumably be discovered once and for all when they start building that A30 road bridge linking St. Mary's with the mainland; I wonder if they'll name the brodge after Lyonesse?...

No fighting allowed on the traveling sunken cathedral.

For some reason I was thinking it was a sunken ship at first.  I know it's a cathedral but... I pictured it out in the middle of a sea.

these This is in Sau, Spain. If there is enough water you see only the tower, it looks very scary

Interesting.  What causes that?  Some kind of yearly tide thing going on?

Well if you play La Cathedral Egloutie like Rachmaninov, then obviously you get the SINKING cathedral..
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

It's a village that has been covered by a reservoir. Sometimes there is not much water in it so the church appears in it's entirety. At the time there is much water, so you see only the top of the spire. You can see more pictures here:

Well that kind of takes the magic out it.  If everyone flushes their toilet at the same time... the mysterious cathedral will appear.... :)
