Jazz/Blues for beginner-lower intermediate
on: April 30, 2004, 09:44:02 PM
I have a few stds who love to play blues scales, improvise on given bass patterns that I play...but I really have not dealt with 'teaching' Jazz/blues in a progressive manner before. Stds want to know licks/grooves, things that are funky and very 'up-beat. I confess it is a breath of fresh air, yes, also new to me too regarding teaching, how do other teach jazz/blues.

Because the stds can't really play a strongly rhthmic bass ostinato - funk, jazz, blues - while improvising, we do this as a duet, sometimes exchanging parts, or doing 'call' and 'answers'.

My question is mainly to do with how to teach this in a fun way that is progressive. Any sites, books to recommend?
