newbie here!!xD, what should I play?

Hi,

My name is Christian, and I've been playing for 2 years I think. Cuz I left piano several times, but since I was 13 I began to play, but I was more into improvisation and pop rock music..=S, now I'm 16

On the other hand, I can also play some classical pieces like:
- Chopin - Fantasie Impromptu largo part..the fast part I can but there's a part I can't play with the two hands at the same time..
- Chopin - only the first two pages
- Mozart - Fantasie in Dm
- Beethoven - pathetique, 1st movement first 3 pages, and 2nd movement full

and many other things..

Currently I'm working on something I can really play, e.g: Beethoven op.49 no 2, and I'm playing scales to practice.

Am I doing good?or what should I do?Cuz I only had 2 months of piano lessons 2 years ago and left it..=S

I also read that Chopin said that however advanced a pupil is should study Clementi's Gradus ad Parnassum..
is this true??

I also have uploaded some videos in youtube, although they are not classical..=P
they are more rock/hardcore and also anime, final fantasy..etcetc

Also, its worth it learning the rest of Pathetique 1st mvt. It has quite a cool ending.

You have to do the general stuff: Watch your playing closely and try to discover your technical weaknesses, then find an etude wich deals with that weakness.

Next to technical etudes, start practising some 'easier' pieces like Chopin noct op9 no1. And please try to finish off a piece if you start with it, especially practising the harder parts of a piece (wich you are currently skipping) gives you a good learning curve.

I forgot to mention that it was the 1st ballade..and yes..I know it's quite impossible and really challenging with the level I had, it's just that I like the ballad..=P

I stopped playing that sonata a few months ago..=S..
anyway, I'll just continue with what I have, then I'll go back to this one

Great music, wonderfully written for children.  I would even play some as an adult.

Well my first piece of advice is to get a teacher, if you want to be any good. There are very few students who can learn how to play classical music well all on their own (although I'm learning that there are a great many who think they can.)

As for pieces, definitely Bach is essential for your musical and pianistic education. Start with the 2-3 part inventions.

That was a problem for me as well. I learnt by myself but when I found a teacher, she told me just how many things I was doing wrong. It was a lot, but I managed to get them fixed pretty quickly and on to other stuff.

yeah..maybe I should get a teacher..cuz my friend told me that everything I did was wrong..XD

However...do you think if I record myself and listen to my own recording I could change somthing?

Perhaps --  you might hear something that could be improved, but would you know how to fix it?

I just watched some of your videos and it's obvious you have a real passion for music and the piano. That's great! And working on classical music will definitely help you develop your technique in any kind of music. Many of the great pop keyboard players have started out with classical.

All the more reason for me to urge you again to find a good teacher while you're still young enough to really learn quickly. Would your parents pay for it? Or is there a music program at your school that's available to you?

My other piece of advice is to get an "acoustic" piano to play along with your other keyboards. It's the best way to really develop a strong technique, and good ears at the same time.

I'll try to search for a "cheap" teacher..=P, cuz I wasted all my money on the piano since january..xD

Someone told me that one time..and I said I was only playing for fun, cuz that guy told me that I sucked a lot in playing..XD, and yes..it was true, I sucked a lot in everything..but since then I began to be more interested in piano. However I couldn't do so much with a 4 octave keyboard..XD

anyway, I'll see what I'll do=)
