qryz -- Improv
on: May 20, 2008, 10:32:36 AM
Well I have actually no idea how I should call this thing. It's basically the attempt to develop a double motif in different ways. The quote of "happy birthday" near the end is intended since my birthday was yesterday. Enjoy!

Well I have actually no idea how I should call this thing.

It reminds me in quite a number of textures a bit of Messiaen's bird music (have you listened to some?). Does that sound absurd? In any case why not call it Bird's Song?

It's basically the attempt to develop a double motif in different ways.

Very interesting. I could never imagine myself to improvise such a thing! Do you make any sketches? Improvising in a polyphonic style like in this exercise would be too much for a poor virus like me :'(. Be proud!

The quote of "happy birthday" near the end is intended, since my birthday was yesterday. Enjoy!

Oh yes, here it is! So it's maybe a "Birthday song from a (Swiss?) bird". Let me join in: happy birthday dear Wolfi, happy birthday to you! I hope you had many more birds (and other animals) singing for you.  :)

Thank you pianovirus :) Remember: viruses can have an immense effect ;D Yes I have listened to Messiaen's works and birds play a role in my music, in many ways. Yes I can fortunately listen to so many (Swiss) birds every morning.  :)

And, well, honestly, I make no scetches at all. All I had in the beginning was this double motif and a certain feeling that this would maybe be interesting to record. What I do though is editing some of my improvs after recording. I love spontaneity :)

Wolfi,

This music speaks to me very much.  I think your title matches somewhat the shape of your thematic motif.  There were some wonderful moments where I was listening to the them transform.  I can hear some Scriabin here, in the structure of how themes are developed.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
