size of print in PS scores? Can it be bigger?
on: May 25, 2008, 07:24:31 PM
I printed out some Field nocturnes.

It's a little small for me.  Is there any way to make them larger?  I'm guessing not.  Not beyond telling the computer to print out at 110% or something like that.  It's going to fall off the page though after a bit of that enlarging.

There's just a lot squeezed onto a page.  There's no way to control that though on my end, except the printing enlarging right?

Yeah.  I think what I'm asking would be Nils reformatting the whole score.

I suppose if I really wanted I could photocopy it onto 11x17 paper or legal paper and use the enlarge feature.

Bob, you are bringing up a problem we would prefer not to be aware of...  ;)

All our scores are in A4 format (international paper size standard, ISO 216) which is 210x297 mm or 8,3x11,7 in.
I assume you are printing on the US standard, letter size papers (8,5 x 11 in).

If so, these papers are 18 mm smaller in height but 5 mm wider so I assume that your printer is scaling down the size to fit the height of your paper. You then get a smaller score  but with rather wide margins on the sides. Is this the case?

I would suggest one of these two options to get slightly larger print which still fits the paper:
1. Print on A4 papers.
2. Print on US legal size papers (8,5x14). You should be able to enlarge by 5-10% to get smaller side margins and consequently larger print.

More info on paper size standards:

This is an important issue for a large part of our users so I look forward to further comments, questions and suggestions!

Unless there's a way to make it larger overall... but I would think that means reformatting it all.  If it's big enough, having it scaled down to 90% wouldn't matter.  Although, it might look like 'little kid' music.  And it would take up more paper, more space.

Or just use the computer to read the music, or buy a $1,000 music e-reader machine.  Haha.

I was thinking more about this.

Maybe there's a way to check a box in the settings and get "American" or "European" size paper.  That would be an extra doubled set of all the music, but appropriate for the standard printing size.  Unless music had to be completely reformatted, I would think it's just a matter of bumping the size up a bit.

If that would work.
