concertos
on: May 26, 2008, 10:47:41 PM
I have a student that I;d like to see enter an aea concerto competition. He's wanting to play Chopin , but really needs a not-so-difficult piece. Other than the Grieg, is there another someone can recommend?
Thanks

The Kabalevsky 3rd piano concerto is a great student concerto piece. He wrote it for that purpose, hence the subtitle "Youth". The two Shostakovich concertos are also some popular picks. Also, the first concerto I played with an orchestra, the Arensky Fantasia on Russian Folksongs, is a great pick, and is also rather short.
