Miaskowsky and Feinberg scores.
on: May 30, 2008, 09:57:27 AM
Hello friends, What is the best place to obtain the sonatas of Miaskovsky, and the sonatas and bach transcriptions of Samuil Feinberg? I'm not necessarily looking for downloadable sheet music, or else I'd have posted in the sheet music requests.

Thanks for your help.

You can't really *buy* copies anymore, and rarely ever could. PM me and I will see what I can do.

Go to www.pianophilia.com and place a request. There's a few long-standing threads dedicated to OOP Soviet/Russian composers, including a ton by both who you've mentioned. Just make sure you search that forum first to make sure that the items aren't already listed.

Reviving this topic because i am in search for the feinberg-bach transcriptions as well. Of course i can find a way to download them, but i really prefer a hard copy, is there any publisher still providing these or does anyone have a soruce/shop where they can be bought? Thanks in advance for trying.

I found one version for sale on: https://www.pianorarescores.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=96

Anyone has any experience with this shop?

Regards,
Hans

Don't go anywhere near it. He tries to profit from the work of others and he has not got one score that is not available somewhere else for free.

Just to reinforce the point:

That is Marcel Mombeeks site and he is the biggest tosser and ponce in the sheet music world, since he tries to profit from the hard work of others who give their time and scores freely.

He has not got a single score that i have not, and i would give any of it to anybody for nothing.

Thal

Do not support that site. It just steals from sites like Pianophilia, where the scores are uploaded for free and scanned tirelessly by the frequent members there, myself included. Just go to Pianophilia, like I suggested before. I hope Thal backs me up on this.

https://www.pianorarescores.com/ : Again, breach of copyright for profit.

Let me make a few points about this site so that hopefully people will avoid it.

1. It is run by a nasty piece of work called Marcel Mombeek ( i am reasonably certain of this) who is notorious in the sheet music world for trawling sites like pianophilia and gamingforce and downloading sheets for nothing. This vile dweeb then tries to sell other peoples work for absurd prices. He has even tried to sell digital scores made available by the University of Rochester.

2. I have never got any scores from him, but he has in the past tried to sell scores that i have scanned. Why would i use him when my own library extends to 179,000 scores.

3. I absolutely assure you that he has nothing that cannot be obtained via other sources for FREE.

4. He has even tried selling Sorabji scores and if memory serves, AH had trouble in getting him to stop.

5. There is no need to use him or other E Bay tossers trying to sell digital scores.

DO NOT USE IT, EVERYTHING CAN BE OBTAINED FOR FREE.

End of sermon.

Thal

Thank you for the consistent and very clear reply on that subject, exactly the reason why i asked. Is it possible he also runs a similar DVD website, something like classical video rarities or something? It reminded me of it and i didnt trust the website because of it.

Anyhow, what is more important for me is... Is there a possibility that u know of to obtain the Feinberg transcriptions? I already contacted some 2nd hand shops about this and am awaiting their answer, but if anyone has any bright ideas... please!

Regards,
Hans

Yes, there is another site run by the same person. I know people who have ordered DVD's and who have received nothing.

IMSLP and youtube have pretty much put this person out of business.

You will be lucky to find originals of these scores.

Hello,
from my side i can say that i had a good experience with that shop. I do not think the scores are available elsewhere. I got Ganz exercises for free! while i spent years searching for them. Probably in United States they are more common but in Europe still very hard to find. I mailed them asking for details and they have a giant collection of books and sheet music they scanned in european and russian libraries. Imspl is a good resouce but that shop has pieces that i could not find on that site.

I have my doubts if they have scanned anything themselves. Mombeek used to regularly PM members of Pianophilia asking for scores.

Not everything that has been scanned is on IMSLP due to copyright restrictions and at a generous assesment, I would doubt if more than 10% of that which is scanned by Pianophilia members end up being posted on Pianophilia.

My stance is the same as ever re this site.

The copyright issue on so many Russian scores is an impenetrable minefield; suffice it to say, though, that there are quite a few works composed and/or published within the past 70 years by Russian composers who have been dead for less than 70 years (such as Myaskovsky and Feinberg) that are not under copyright, but how to establish which are which are not is often very difficult indeed; the best thing is to ask the Performing Right Society in UK or whatever its equivalent may be in the country concerned.

Well, at least Mombeek took down the Hamelin, Sorabji and yours truly stuff from his site when I asked him to do so way back in January 2003 and a casual glance at that site now indicates that he has not subsequently put any of them back.

I've not yet seen a reincarntion of that Russian site with this stuff on it either, actually.

I have found it pointless asking the PRS anything.

They are only interested in sending leaflets to every business in the Country telling employers they must pay for their staff to listen to the radio.

Pointless organisation.

Marcel Mombeek is a horrible man.He claims to have studied with Cziffra in Paris and worships him.Yet he went online 10 years ago with Cziffra's transcriptions trying to sell them without informing the Cziffra foundation...hypocrite behaviour.

On youtube he collaborates with a 3thd rank amateur pianist,Geert Dehoux(,attacking, belittling and humiliating pianists like Pollini,Richter,Michelangeli etc.with the most moronic comments ever.
As far as I know these two idiots are still very active in putting their droppings on every possible Richter or Pollini video.Clearly two people with serious mental problems in need for therapy and appropriate medication.
