What to do, what to do...
on: June 04, 2008, 05:33:38 AM
Ok, I posted some time back asking for concerto suggstions and ended up going for the Totentanz. I love the piece and I think it would work well for me, however now it seems that instead of having it prepared by fall, I would  need it prepared by next Spring. This gives me more time and the possibility of learning something of more substance, so now I ask you for a little advice...

I was considering the Schumann concerto. Although so frequently played, I believe that it is one of those pieces that could still do well in a competition. Or is it? Would I be better off finishing the Totentanz or learning the Schumann? Which would fare better in a concerto competeion? The Schumann holds a soft spot with me, so that is why I'm considering that one. Suggestions pleeeeze.....

I would stick with the Totentanz. If you can pull it off, not only will everyone be impressed, you yourself will be impressed too.
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

Totentanz is more awesome, harder, and a more suitable competition piece.

Daniel
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)
