I had an interesting chat with a couple of people today, and the topic of "learning via observation" of one's fellow Artists came up. Now I'm not saying that I'm going to run around stalking the great Masters of this day and age, but I will say that if I hear someone I like, I will make every attempt to go to every recital of theirs that I can and that I will really get to know their Music -
really know their Music.
Of course, I'm speaking vocally, as I'm new to this brilliant world of Piano (thank you terribly for your extreme Patience, my Piano Streetians

). I was surprised that a couple of Pianists didn't do this for various reasons. I'm not saying that one should go to recitals to record and copy some Virtuoso's distinct style, but I think that one can maybe come away with new ideas (even if it's a "Wow, what Incredible Rep! I'd love to play it/whatever. . . ").
So, coming from a Pianist's perspective, what arguments are there for not going to recitals/getting to know your fellow Artists? I thought that the benefits would be overwhelming. Locally, Nationally, Universally, I personally thought that you should at least know what's out there, but apparently this is controversial (go figure). Naturally, I demand to know more

.
Thanks, guys.
~Yours, Ess~
