Ronald Stevenson study weekend
on: June 23, 2008, 08:11:11 PM
I should have thought of posting this earlier, but better late than never, they say....

The Ronald Stevenson Society organises a study weekend every couple of years and there's one coming up at the end of July - 25 to 27 July in Millport, Isle of Cumbrae, just an hour and a half from Glasgow by train and ferry. I'm going, as I have done to all the previous ones: they're usually highly congenial gatherings of like-minded souls with some good music making and interesting presentations. This year, the discussion and performance will take in two of Stevenson's major influences, Busoni and Grainger, as well as the music of the man himself (who will of course be there in person). Highlights include a performance of Stevenson's Harpsichord Sonata by Kevin Bowyer, and of the first piano concert by a young Portuguese pianist, accompanied on second piano (not least because the venue is too small to accommodate an orchestra!).

Feel free to PM me for more info. I'm only slightly involved with organising it but if I can't answer questions I'll know who can.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

argh! we have a boat over at Helensburgh (near Rhu) just near Largs/Kip, but I'm at La Roque in France then! So annoyed!
I'm going to Edinburgh Uni next year though, so possibly a chance of seeing him around... he does live just outside Edinburgh right? Penucuik/Carlops way?
Working on: Schubert - Piano Sonata D.664, Ravel - Sonatine, Ginastera - Danzas Argentinas

West Linton, in fact - next village you come to after Carlops as you head south from E'burgh. Drop into the bookshop and ask after him, the boss there is a big-time pianophile and, come to think, not bad pianist and all.
