Do they still make KIMBALL pianos?
on: May 17, 2004, 07:59:28 AM
I haven't seen any in a long time, I happen to have one. It's probably not the greatest but has alot of sentimental value, as it is the piano I grew up with. So I flew home and drove it back in a U-haul, and it's still a beautiful piano excellent condition, but I haven't seen them anywhere in years and just wondered if anyone else had one of these, or new if they still made/sold them?

thanks,
s :)

Last I heard, Kimball got out of the piano business and has been doing well making office furniture. Oddly enough, there is a venture in England that makes "Kemble" pianos, one that Yamaha has an interest in.

I believe they stopped making them in the mid eighties or so. I own one also. Mine isn't in good condition though :(.                                                       Mark

Kimball stopped production of grands in 1995, and production of verticals in 1996. So much wood could have gone to better use. ;)

George,

Right on!! The factory is still open and building cabinets for speaker systems and furniture,by the way.

Probably best all around.

While Kimball isn't the greatest piano ever crafted (the La Petite comes to mind) I wanted to remind everyone that the legendary Bosendorfer was under Kimball's watch for years.
