Yeah, it wasn't the same. It was better and much more sane and secular.

It wasn't as...alive.

Hello Susan,
Welcome back.

I hope that you have learned to control yourself now.  :P

Have fun,

truly, it doesn't depress me to read pianostreet and i'd like to know what you are lately playing, sharon_f.  somehow, without pianostreet - i haven't the strength to go on.

Thanks for asking. Learning a lot of new things and polishing others. New pieces include: Bach/Kempff "Siciliano" which is absolutely beautiful. I'm also learning an obscure early Sonata by Schubert, D. 566. It has two movements and there were two additional movements that were added later. I chose to go the Kempff route and just include the Moderato & Allegretto. Also working on Danse by Debussy.

My teacher was a little leery when I first brought in the Schubert. She had never heard it before. But after working on it, she like it very much and is thinking about assigning it to some of her other students.

Good to hear from you, again. (Try not to get sucked into all the craziness here. I've been registered for years but my post count is pretty low compared to others. I usually only reply if I have something to add that might be valuable to others.)

yeah, n i find this piece very hard to play. almost as hard as a chopin etude, tho in completely different respect, of course. but maybe its just me?

No, it's not just you. It's very deceptive. The notes are simple, but to get the right balance between the outer voice and the accompaniment, to get the whole thing to sing, is very tricky.

actually, i let my membership expire.  but, do you know what?  i logged on tonight just to see what would happen - and i think someone paid my membership.  must have been thal.  guilt complex and all.

You were a gold member, which costs money.  When you let it lapse, you became a silver member, which is free.  The difference is that you have no access to sheet music now.

You can now stay and post as long as you like without paying, but you will remain silver.

THanks, thalberg, for explaining that.  It's probably in the fine print somewhere's - but now explained.

Sharon, you and i have very similar tastes.  I'd love to hear your works sometime - and i'm impressed at how much stick-to-it-iveness that you have.  You probably teach, too.  It crazy to get in all the practice at times - but at least on this forum there are people of like-mind (in some respects) that value encouraging piano practice.  I don't recall hearing family members ask 'what did you practice today?' or 'how much practice did you get in?'  Typically, those questions are from one pianist to another.   My family might ask 'what's for dinner?'  or 'did you wash my pants?'  Yes... i'm getting to the point that i can say without guilt - go cook or wash them yourself.  Perhaps i will find much more time to practice as the little one gets back into school in the fall.  It's a juggling act.

The next step comes when your family asks you "What would you like for dinner?"  ;)

Say, Essy's lookin' for a job since Starbucks went under.  She could do your cooking and cleaning!

[and, Essy, don't yell at me and tell me to "go do the cooking and cleaning yourself" coz you think I'm an egotistical, overbearing, jazz-hating (which is NOT true, btw) male chauvinist pig.  I have a job, thank you very much -- well, I have one for a couple more months unless I want to end up in Tahiti for the rest of my life.  Wait, that sounds perfect.]

Okay. Fine. I'm talking to you, but only because I have no life  ::).

Now - I got transferred to a different store at Starbs, and I can't cook at all. Skipped a generation. I'm good w/ baking, but I don't think Susan wants to gain a zillion pounds.

As for your aside. . . hmmm . . . how to respond - I don't think you're a jazz-hating male. Actually, I was referring to a different member of this forum who very adamently denounces jazz and then tells me on MSN that he was just doing it to have fun.

I have a job. I get benefits. That's all I have to say about THAT ;).
