Tropic Thunder

Has anyone seen the movie Tropic Thunder yet?  We're treating my BIL to dinner tonight and we're thinking about seeing a movie afterwards. 

I have to admit I had no desire in seeing this movie at first, but now it just looks downright hilarious to me.  I'm looking forward to seeing it but curious to know what other people's reviews are.

I haven't seen it yet but judging by reviews in the media, it seems to appeal to a-special type of humor. I wanna see it!

Ok, we saw it last night.  I don't want to ruin it for anybody, but I absolutely loved it.  I personally thought it was hilarious, as did my husband and family.  Funny thing is that my DH and I are not into movies like this, but I will definitely be owning this one on DVD.  Robert Downey Jr. was just fantastic, and so was the rest of the cast.

How vulgar is it? My wife and I aren't prudes, but there's just a limit! For instance, we turned off The 40 Year Old Virgin after about 30 minutes! Edgy is one thing (the movie Happiness, for instance), but crude/sophomoric sexual "humor" wears thin after a while.

It wasn't overly sexually vulgar, but there were some 'gross' blood and guts that were mostly satirzing the typical fair of most war movies. Most of the humor doesn't come from raunchy dialogue, and the movie was very well done. It excellently satirizes both the state of today's movie business and the cliches that exist in many war movies, while at the same time poking fun at a number of famous Vietnam films. I highly recommend it. The humor is for the most part well crafted and not stupid like many teen oriented movies.

We're the same way and I can't stand to watch movies that are too vulgar or over-the-top.  Although, Tropic Thunder was just absurd at times but it was hilarious for the most part.  I haven't seen the 40 Year Old Virgin yet and probably never will.

You explained it beautifully!  One more thing I want to add is that I know many people and groups are deeply offended by this movie, but that was not the writer's (Ben Stiller) intentions.  It simply satirizes Hollywood and the lengths some actors will go to for a movie, just as forzaitalia250 said.

It's a surprisingly funny movie. The premise is actually pretty original, and is well delivered.  Downey Jr. is the performance of the film, for me.  There's also a hilarious cameo by a certain superstar who has become increasingly infamous for his bizarre behavior off the screen of late.  I won't tell you who it is, but if you see the movie you'll know right away who I'm talking about.
