recital/competition pieces - intermediate
on: August 20, 2008, 02:31:57 PM
Er... Hi. Not sure where to post this exactly, I don't mind if you move this thread.
I've decided to try for our school's grand recital this year. GR is a competition every December, with auditions + eliminations on October. It's a long shot, considering I've started not too long ago, but if I start very soon I might be able to make it. So I don't expect to win; I just want the experience. I already asked my teacher, and she said, "Why not?" (Actually it was her idea, she's very fond of GR. I thought about it for a month.) We haven't started the audition pieces yet, since my piano exams (end of October) this semester are top priority.
So what pieces? I can't use my beginner/ early intermediate pieces because of my age. (Bummer that I started as an adult, but meh...) I have to play something at least at the level of Bach inventions. I do not quite understand this, but my teacher said recital pieces and competition pieces are different. Does that mean it has to sound flashy or something? All I understand is that the tempo must be at least moderate, as a rule. But before, I thought any polished piece would do. Please enlighten me on this, and make some suggestions. Not so advanced, though. Something doable in 3 months, that sounds good. Oh and I don't want to bore anyone with very famous pieces (Fur Elise, Minute Waltz, etc.)
PS. The GR has two categories for piano- pop and classical. My teacher gave me No Other Love, but I'm still open for more suggestions. I have many many classical pieces, but I don't know how they sound like so I can't decide...
