Schumann Fantasy or Beethoven Appassionata

Hey everyone.

Could you please tell me which piece you prefer and for what reasons. I have been trying to choose one but I can't pick. I like both of the a lot.

appassionata ? How many movements you play ?

if whole song appassionata is 23 mins

if you cant handle then schumann fantasy

i would play all three movements for both of them.

the Fantasy in C major by Schumann is one of his greatest works, and one of the greatest works for piano ever written! You should play it only if you know and love and worship each and every note of this piece, in my opinion. Apassionata is a great work but so many people have ruined it already, so it won't really matter if another one will. But the fantasy should be treated carefully.
I would suggest you to take the fantasia, eventually, but please, please, make sure you gave everything so that this music will make people feel as if they are in the space, away from everything in that world, and the only thing there is is Schumann's wonderfull music and the sadness it has inside. Because there are only few who can do this, unfourtunatelly.

I would begin by tackling the appassionata before thinking about the schumann fantasie.

Both pieces are so different!  It depends on what you are learning it for.  An audition?  A piano competition?  Recital?  It also depends on your temperament.  I often choose pieces that I don't think I can play well specifically to grow.  But then, I wouldn't be expecting to use it in a competition or audition where I would need to have my best foot forward.  I have played both pieces-Schumann fits my temparement more, and it was something I thought of using for competitions.  But it is not a very good competition piece.  Very difficult, subtle and much is dependent on the beauty of your instrument.  Both are great works.  Appasionata is more straightforwared but I don;t think it is easier or harder.  Just very different.  Depends on your strengths.  Pick what you love!  Make an instinctive decision and start learning the notes.  You will know better once you have started working on it.  I started learning the Schumann fantasy so many times vefore I finally committed to it.

i quite agree Schumann will not sound good if you do not love every note
it is so easy to tell when a person does not love a Schumann piece so but Beethoven and Schumann are so different what is restricting you from learning both?

I see what your saying. And I completely agree. I do believe I'm at the level to play both pieces. I was just wondering which one everyone else preferred since I like both pieces.
