khachaturian's toccata
on: May 22, 2004, 07:15:05 AM
hi, i'm currently learning this toccata but can't get to make much sense of the middle section rhythmically, like it's just chaos. so i was wondering if anyone knew any ideas on how to make learning this easier?
thanks heaps

Make sure that you know where the main beats of the bars are and try to emphasise these at first. Also try to think of this section as being quite improvised and don't try and play every note exactly in time because that's impossible to do! Try to play it really freely but always make sure that you know where the beats are. Practicing a passage like this slowly with a metronome and hands seperately can be a good way of figuring out the relative speeds of the notes.

Hope this helps. :)
