All I will say to forum members is that, wherever you may be, do try to get to at least one of these events and I promise unequivocally that you won't stand so much as a snowball's chance in Hell of being disappointed for a second; I wish that I could attend all of them myself!

Best,

Alistair
Amusing that you should mention snowballs, it was snowing like 12,000BC that evening...
In the long run, any words about music are less important than the music. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not worth talking to (Shostakovich)

Mr. Powell, please consider coming to the United States sometime, especially the West Coast! I know you'd get a large turnout here!

There is in fact a chance that might happen in the next year or so.

Tickets £10/£7 on door

Leonid Nikolayev: Barcarolle and Tarantella
Scriabin: various preludes, poemes, pieces
Szymanowski: Sonata no.2
(Jonathan Powell, piano)

Rachmaninoff: Fantaisie-tableaux [Suite no.1]
Nikolayev: Variations on Four Notes
(Chisato Kusunoki and Jonathan Powell, pianos)

NB Nikolayev was the piano teacher of Shostakovich, Maria Yudina and

Ukraine, at the end of the month (they both lived in the town at the
beginning of the century).
