Most favorite Schubert Sonatas

The last sonata is typically the preferred one and perhaps also the most often played. But what about the others? Which ones did you play, how did you like them?

The first two movements of the D960 are perhaps some of the greatest music written by anyone. As per another discussion (I think on a different forum), I have to agree that the last two movements are a bit of a letdown.
Otherwise, I'm very, very fond of the D845. That gripping drama in the first movement... nice...

Favorite Schubert Sonatas
The last three I have listened to many times; some years ago they were my listening diet. My favorite is 960. 664 and 845 are gems as well. As for playing, I have only dabbled with a movement here and there. One day I will get to them.

I've always liked the 2 A minor sonatas & remember Brendel's first Phillips set being much played on my subprime radiogram. Particularly liked the theme & variations in the longer one.
On cd, I can't decide about Kissin's D784 but the power is impressive & makes it an angry piece.

the best? B-flat major D.960, no questions asked. for me, D. 958 and D. 959 are tied for 2nd place. Im learning the C minor right now, its such an ominous piece, almost scarily so. and I agree with the above poster who said the last movement is a pianistic nightmare... it is difficult but well worth the effort. I'm studying in a conservatory now and almost never hear anyone playing schubert sonatas. to me this is perplexing, they are some of those most sublime music ever written. If you haven't heard it, look for the F minor D. 625, a rarely performed gem of bittersweetness.

So much necroposting, but hopefully that's not a bad thing.
There all so good, I'd rank them. And by the way, what happened to the Reliquie? It's so good, no matter how incomplete it is.
Anyways:
D 960
D 894 "Fantasie"
D 959
D 840 "Reliquie"
D 958
D 850
D 845 "Grande"
D 664
D 784
Gosh, now I can't resist putting all the other ones in a ranking too.
