Scarlatti Sonata G major k201- level?
on: May 25, 2004, 07:59:35 AM
Could someone please let me know what grade level this piece might be?  My daughter would like to learn it as her next piece.  She just completed the Chopin Nocturne in E flat mjr.  Thanks, Lani

Grade 5/6.

This sonata is an excellent replacement for the likes of Hanon and Czerny. Figurations are equally distributed amongst hands, so it develops both hands. Main areas of study: arpeggios, thirds and broken thirds in fast runs, hand independence and the ability to bring a melody to the forefront (cantabile). Excellent for developping a light, detached touch. Good choice.  :D

Best wishes,
Bernhard.
