Tokyo University Preparations
on: October 15, 2008, 04:21:27 AM
Does someone here are students or graduate from Tokyo U or from Japan.

Something about entrance exams that you can help me.
It is hard to handle both piano and curicullum.

I am a Ronin right now.
See you next September

I might be able to speak in terms of the research.  It is the best university in Asia, hands down.  A professor of mine did her PhD there, and recommends studying in Japan extremely strongly.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

There is no music program in University of Tokyo, lol.
You go here if you want to study music.

But if you want to study law, international relations, physics, linguistics etc, I highly recommend University of Tokyo.

Oriental? Such a blanket statement adjective. Hehehe. Are you a Westerner by any chance? As an Asian myself, I don't want to be classified as such.

Btw, Orientalism by Edward Said is a good read.

Btw, Orientalism by Edward Said is a good read.

Shame that book was written in the 70s. A lot of the material in there is quite dated. Also, he beats around the bush too much. In my opinion, the book could have been written in a third the length to the same effect. I don't recommend this book, just having studied it in one of my classes.

Yes, good point.
But that should be good for starters like him.

Besides, it doesn't matter if it's published in the 70s.
One does not read just to affirm one's believe but to challenge it.
I never said he has to agree with what Said said.

Interesting that you said it's a shame to read since it was written back in the 70s.
Would it be a shame to read Nietzsche and the Bible then?  ;)

Just because a book is dated doesn't mean the reader will follow a line of dated thoughts as well.

momopi is right , we'll she is a psychic  :o
I never said that I was a pure Japanese.

You knew that I was not a Japanese but I have Japanese blood.
Let us say Half-blooded. I kind UH got interested with my ancestral bloodline.

Good you asked, You see thaqt it is easy for a foreigner to fail the JLPT test since Japanese is one of the Hardest language to learn and the most complex to write.
WE have to study 1750 Kanji characters and unlike Chinese. one Japanese Kanji has exactly 2 ways to say. There was one Kanji that has over 10 readings.

but speaking of GOKON. I have an idea
Db_05 is to pinoypianist.
healdie is to thalbergmad.
momopi is to retrouvailles
And me to loonbohol.

Should the dating place be on Shinjuku or Yotsuya or in top of the Tokyo tower.
It must work fine. ::)

We'll Tokyo Tower was built as the replica of Eiffel tower.
