Chills!!

Have you ever listened to a piece of music that caused cold chills to run down your back?  The only piece that has done that to me is the ending of Beethoven's Appassionata.

Yes.  It's like an aural orgasm where the music just builds to a point where the skin on your back just climaxes and you feel them getting off on it.

The last music that has done that, given me the shivers, is Alkan's Op. 39-10, the Concerto finale, Allegretto alla barbaresca.  Near the end, there is the build up into this beautiful orgy where everything just fits.  It's about 8 minutes into the movement.  I love that piece.

I know what you mean by the chills, I get them all the time in a lot of pieces of music. Things such as the big tunes in Rach2+3, or the opening of Une barque sur l'ocean by Ravel and generally anything loud by Beethoven! Having said that it could just be because I'm cold....!

speaking of scriabin, i always get chills on my back when listening to his sonatas (particularly the masses), guirlandes and vers la flamme.

Whenever I play the op.32 no.10 Rachmaninov prelude I get this feeling. After the drama of the second page, playing the third can be an incredible experience. The kind of music I dreamed about playing when I first started learning.

Lots of pieces. Right now, the last two minutes of Messiaen's "Vingt Regards" #20.

Bach's Air from the Orchstral Suite gives me chills and goosebumps.

And of course Raindrop, Marche Funbré (spelling?)

how about the climax of ondine , infact the whole of it , but specially the climax, it sure gives me the chills, and well i think i should say whole of gaspard de la nuit.
prokofiev's toccata and ravels toccata, give me the chills at the very thought of how can one ever play them, hehe, specially the ending of ravel's toccata ( not many pianists have done a good job there, i have heard so many great pianists, including gieseking, francois,  and perlamuter ( who was also known for his debussy and ravel)  completely mess up that ending of ravel s toccata) ) .
i get those chills in ravels piano concerto s as well, both of 'em , and that section of trills in the first movement of piano concerto in G, wow,  it sends shivers down my spine.
prokofievs piano concertos, do the same  .
i ll be back with more pieces when i can think of them.

If you have the sheet music like I do for it, you wil know how ridiculously difficult to learn the left hand is.  I dont know if I will ever try it.
