Recommend me a New Piano PLEASE!!
on: October 20, 2008, 05:17:35 AM
So after much waiting i have decided to get an electric piano. I am looking for an electric piano with weighed keys with multi instrumental effects and if possible, simple recording capabilities. Now my budget is very minimal so please try to keep it as low as possible  :P A model number, a brand name, anything will be much helpful and much thanked  :)

This will be my first piano of any sort that i will be buying, so if i am missing any information, please tell me!

do you need it to be a full 88 keys? If not, the Casio WK-110 (76 keys) is a good, very cheap one.

The name is allthumbs.  :D

Actually, I don't know much about the keyboards except the reviews I've read. The one you've found looks good though.

I just got this keyboard at the beginning of summer and would honestly recommend it to anyone, especially for the price.  This keyboard was originally around $3000 but Alesis recently discontinued it and on their site you can get a refurbed for$899.  It has a fantastic grand piano sound, a huge library of sounds come stock, tons of sounds can be downloaded, and if you wanna spend awhile figuring it out, you can even use your own instruments as sounds on the keyboard.

Sadly, I can't seem to find any new ones, but these are great keyboards.

If you want a digital piano, to get better at playing the piano your best option is probably one of the yamaha clavinova's. Wich one you choose depends on your budget and taste, so just go to a big piano dealer and try them all out. More expensive doesnt mean better, it usually only means that there are more gadgets on it (wich you usually dont even use).

I bought a Clavinova-120 three years ago which is a more basic model.  It has about twenty sounds, recording capabilities, and apparently though I have never used it transposing. At the time they cost around $2,200US, but I was able to barter it down to $1,700US. I have not looked at their retail value as of late.  I use it on a daily basis plus I have children, and other than a few tiny scratches it is still in great working conditions.

Though I really wanted an acoustic piano, at the time I had my reasons as to why I bought a digital.  So I went to every store where digital piano's were sold and tried them all.  Casio, Kurletzer, Toshiba, ext... The Clavinova is what stood out the most to me in both sound and feel.  It just has a basic piano feel to it and that's all I really want.  Plus it is heavy and sturdy.  Does not move around when playing a little over fortissimo.

Good luck! Hope you find what you are looking for.
