audition recording
on: October 25, 2008, 01:40:12 PM
hello, guys and gals,
i want to do a recording. Except from going for a professional recording studio, is there other way to record down my own performance.
The recording is for audition.
Thanks.

If you have a bit of spare cash, I'd recommend the Edirol R-09HR digital recorder. It would be about £250 (UK) or $350 (US). It is highly portable (about the size of a mobile phone albeit a bit thicker), has a decent internal microphone, and records in WAV or MP3 format to an internal memory card. The file(s) can then be transferred to your computer via a USB card reader (not supplied, but very cheap to buy).

If you don't want to spend much money try any cheap microphone, put it inside the piano (a grand) and close the lid (or leave the front flap open whatever works best. I've tried that with cheap mics and got really nice sound. I have tried much more expensive mics and put them out of the piano and it sounds not as good unless you are in room with good acoustics. You really have to adjust the mic settings on the computer so it doesn't get too loud when you put the mic inside so it is a little bit fiddly.
