Phillies Win The World Series!
on: October 30, 2008, 04:46:19 AM
Wow! As one of those "long-suffering Philadelphia sports fans", it feels great to see the Phils win the big one. I was living in Philly when they won back in 80, but even though I now live across the river, I can say this win feels even better. And what a great team, a bunch of class guys...humble, hardworking, always putting the team first.

Yay!!  :D 8)

I lived in Boston for years and the Sox never won a WS but came oh so close a few times. When they finally won, breaking the curse after 86 years in '04 the sky here (Arizona) turned red  at midnight, a partial eclipse (so they say).

But I knew it was the gate of hell opening; the Red Sox, winning?  :o

It was so cool...  8)

Yes.  This is good news (i think).  I rarely watch the games - and was sleeping at the time it happened.  I was awakened by the sounds of yelling down the street - which i attributed after some time to a domestic dispute.

This whole thing has been positive though.  It puts most people here in a generally good frame of mind.  People are more considerate driving.  They actually smile.  There's something to talk about (did you watch the game?)  People compare notes as to where and what they were doing when the phillies won.  Things like that.

Only a couple negatives to the huge positive that no philly team has won nationals since 1983 (according to the paper).  Several cars were turned over in the parking lot in the excitement afterwards.  'What's his name' didn't make any home runs in the last game.

*new year's resolution is possibly to learn more about the game so i can watch it with my hubby. it is his fantasy to have a wife jumping up and down and showing some kind of emotion over a ballgame.  are there any books like 'the idiot's guide to baseball?'  why can't they make one?  Seems to me some of the hand signals are like gangsters telling each other what to do next.
