a hidden gem that i have found
on: November 30, 2008, 09:55:10 AM
i'm always looking to play neglected, beautiful music
recently i stumbled across a very beautiful piece by Anton Rubinstein.
it's Melancolie Op.51 no.1
it's not too difficult, it has beautiful, haunting melodies, it's very well crafted, and it's neglected! (it has never been recorded)

you can find the sheets here:

It's a pretty little thing, no question, though I wouldn't say I find it especially striking. But yes, pretty and eminently programmable.

By the way, you say it's unrecorded: Joseph Banowetz was supposedly recording the complete piano works of Rubinstein for Naxos a few years ago. Did he finish, or did they abandon it? I remember helping him find some scores for the project, but we've lost touch since.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.
