Piano 4 hands repertoire
on: December 04, 2008, 07:04:10 AM
I just recently got really bored practicing by myself and decided I wanted to start collaborating with other people more. I just worked on movements 1 and 4 of Debussy's Petite Suite, and I'm planning on starting something else with another friend next semester. The problem is, I know next to nothing about piano 4 hands music. My professor recommended Brahms, and I looked at a few of those and wasn't thrilled for some reason. I really liked the Dubussy if that helps. I think the person I'm working with and I are both more into romantic era stuff, so I'd prefer to avoid Mozart and stuff like that. As for ability level, I think he's pretty advanced, I'm in the intermediate area. I had no trouble with the Debussy, it was just difficult to put together since the other person wasn't available to practice much. I don't think we're going to work on this for a recital, just for fun, so something more difficult would be fine. Any ideas?

Try Holst's "The Planets". Very fun, very addictive to play, a crowd pleaser too.

Thanks, I'll look into that one. Also, I don't know why I specified 4 hands, because 2 pianos is also fine if there's anything that people want to recommend in that area.

There's a Rachmaninoff suite for 2 pianos that sounds interesting:
And another one:
A Chopin Rondo:
A fun sounding set of variations:
