prelude and fugue in f# minor WTC2
on: December 06, 2008, 10:10:52 AM
yeah i've recorded the fugue portion from the f# minor prelude and fugue. and i need some advice and opinions on my playing. this isn't really the best i'm capable of doing but i've not touched the piano for a while after this recording so i'm not sure how'll my next recording sound like. but please take the time to listen to it. thanks everyone.

Good work so far - you sound as if you've got the basic counterpoint going. Apart from the usual voices separately, then two together etc etc etc, I would recommend you think more carefully about how you're going to shape your subjects. For example, the first one has a series of leaps and steps - try and think about where the climax might be, where the phrase is going to etc. At the moment, it sounds like you're just playing through the subject a bit blandly.
IMO anyways.

My first thought exactly. With Bach and baroque music it is always difficult to decide how originally it should be played. In either way you decided to play classically baroque or romantic baroque you need to work on your phrasing. To me the left hand sounded dominant. Though it is a fugue try to decide which voice needs to be more prominent at any given time and at the same time even out both voices. All in all it has the potential to be very nice.
Hope this helps.
