A Jazz Piano Christmas 2025 – But not at the Kennedy Center

For more than three decades, “A Jazz Piano Christmas” at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. has been a quiet highlight of the holiday season for jazz and piano lovers. No fixed formulas, no “seasonal jazz” clichés — just strong pianistic voices working with familiar material. This year, the live concert is on pause. Here’s what changed, and where pianists can still turn for meaningful jazz piano Christmas listening and playing. Read more

Transfering music college
on: December 19, 2008, 07:32:26 PM
I am seriously thinking of transfering to the RCM from RNCM in Manchester. I am a first year postgrad, 28, and find the decision very very risky, esp at my age. The main reason I am changing is that I find the level of the pianists varies too much, and the atmostphere isn't right for me. I will not audition at the RAM, as the level they would expect I just can't meet.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Has anyone transfered to another college before? Any advice would be much appreciated as this is a very important decision I have to make. Thanks

Well....the level of pianists varies a hell of a lot at RCM as well. It's like anywhere, you get the amazing people, the middle people, and the less good people.

RAM and RCM are about exactly the same in terms of difficulty to get in. Personally I would look at the teachers, and choose the school around that. I don't know what happens with tranfers but I am sure you will have to do an audition...and the masters audition at RCM have just finished so I don't know what would happen.

Why do you want to transfer? Are you happy with your teacher?

It doesn't matter now, I have decided to stay where I am and finish my diploma. Thanks for your reply, but as you say, the auditions are over, and so there is very little chance of my passing any audition at this stage.
