Help me understand some sheet music I have?
on: January 03, 2009, 11:52:57 AM
My sheet music confuses me. The music is in 2/4 time. As you can see, measures 10-13 contain more than 8 16th notes. it doesn't note any time or measure changes. they look to me like regular 16th notes, but they shouldn't fit in the measures.

What is this? How do I go about playing, counting, etc. this?

I'm particularly concerned about measure 13.

They look like they are in threes. Are they like triplets?

hm, yes they should be triplets, so you have 3 instead 2, it's abit quicker, use your metronome
however what is it for notes?

Yes these are triplets. Like some other composers, Mr. Volodos didn't write the little 3 above, I guess because it's obvious. In m. 13 the first half are triplets, the second half normal sixteehths.

Thank you guys.

Later in the piece, it has some sixteenth notes under a line and a 6. Would that be..sextuplets, or something?

I suppose he felt the need there..?

Trish, it is Arcadi Volodos' version of Mozart's Turkish March.

Iam listening to it on youtube now, sounds interresting and hard too

I don't know the sheet but i think you should be directed by the main melody (with that eighth-notes...) so if there are under 6 notes, they should be in sextuplets
but I haven't seen the sheet  ;)

The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more
