An audition requirement is: A substantial piece by a 20th Century composer.

I am thinking about a piece by Prokofiev. What would be the best piece? I thought maybe: A sonata for piano (not Nos 1 or 5), or maybe Toccata? What else? Best piece?

Prokofiev Sonata 7 - Amazing piece with a beautiful slow movement. The rest is nice and flashy though. ;D

The third sonata is amazing and only one movement. Alternatively, you could try some movements from the Romeo and Juliet Suite, which are quite nice and not played too often (besides Montagues and Capulets)... though perhaps they wouldn't count as substantial.
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

I think the Sonata #2 is exciting to play!

hi there!

prokofiev's sonatas always fit very well in those situations. i will suggest one that you really like and that is not a personal killer. notice that sonatas 6 to 9 are way difficult than the former.

just for the sake of my curiosity, why you can't/won't play the 1st and 5th sonatas?

best!
