Your favorite Chopin ballade
on: January 16, 2009, 04:46:00 PM
This has probably been done before but so what, I only recently(ish) discovered them! So I'm a still obsessed about them.
Feel free to mention your favorite / not so favorite performances of them too if you like...
Heres mine in order from my most favorite to the somewhat least favorite - but its still all very very good!
Ballade 3, Op 47 - A
b
major
Ballade 4, Op 52 - F minor
Ballade 1, Op 23 - G minor
Ballade 2, Op 38 - F major
Really like Zimmerman's preformance of them esp of numbers 3 and 4, I find Pollini's version a little rushed, but really like the 1st one by him...Rachmaninov's version of number 3 is intresting but not to my taste
, sorry Rach.

The only one i like is the second.
My least favorite is the god damn fourth, because it is vapid and soporific.

This is really a tought call!!
When I discovered them it was the Ab--f minor--F major---g minor. Performed the Ab---was working on the F major--Coda you learn FIRST!
Enjoy them!

The Forth is my favourite, but the other 3 is also really great.

I think it varies between 2 and 3 depending on my mood... Of course I like 1 and 4 too, but I guess I just don't relate to them as well.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

Hmmmmm. I see No 4 seems to be the most popular!

... awwww No 3 seems to be the least favorite
. I don't know why, its not as fancy as the 2nd, but it more then makes up for it in passion I think
. Its flirty.
