Cocktail piano
on: January 16, 2009, 09:43:47 PM
Hi guys and gals

At a up and coming college concert I have been asked to play some piano at the begining for people to enter to and just to serve as some backing music

I am looking for some simple jazz or some really cheesy piano lounge stuff so any suggestions of some good stuff would be greatly appreciated (an included sheet music would be great also ;))

oh and nothing too hard because I don't have too long to learn it

dear healdie:
i think that with some jazz standards you will do it nicely. outside this boundaries, i could think of some satie (he would probably love the idea), perhaps a couple of numbers of grieg's lyric pieces or tchaikovsky's the seasons.
i'm sorry i can't provide any sheet music, but i think that would not be difficult to find it out there.
best, and have fun!

Arensky also suggests quite a few pieces too.

thanks I could possibly get away with the Satie but they are not looking for any classical music (that would have been my choice) so I don't think the Grieg or tchaikovsky would do

where did i read that you were looking for that?  :P

about the standards, there is a masterpiece by ella fitzgerald and louis armstrong that will provide some amazing ideas:
