Music Score writer?

Where can I get software for making my own music sheets? I would especially like to know if there are any freeware/ shareware ones available ;D

If you can track down an older version of Finale Notepad, it does basic notation stuff (it was free).  The new one is $20 or so. 

Personally I use the full version of Finale, but then again I do a lot of engraving work. 
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Thanks so much for that quantum, I looked it up on Wikipedia, and that's how I found its article on score writers. One of them listed was MuseScore, It is free and I just installed it. It is awesome! Does anyone else have experience with it?

A previously unknown manuscript by Frédéric Chopin has been discovered at New York’s Morgan Library and Museum. The handwritten score is titled “Valse” and consists of 24 bars of music in the key of A minor and is considered a major discovery in the wold of classical piano music. Read more
