Hmm... so no one likes Stanchinsky ...  Too dark?

Hi naturlaut,

Actually I like this Stanchinsky piece.  This prelude has a late romantic flavor--dark and melancholy with a melody entwined with chromaticism and some beautiful modal shifts in the harmonies and accompanying figurations.  It seems to have a trace of Scriabin, yet the idiom is very individualistic too.  Thanks for performing this work by a little-known and neglected Russian composer.  Very nice playing!

What I really wanted to play was the Sonata in Eb minor.  It's one of those romantic russian single-movement sonatas that is ultra effective in any concert environment.

Hi naturlaut,

Perhaps another day you could still give us that E flat minor sonata.  In the meantime, this prelude at least gives us a glimpse of this composer's style.
