1.  What age did you start taking piano lessons?
I was 5. very tiny. super small hands :)

2.  Was it forced?(like did your parents make you)  Or did you have a desire to?
i wanted to. I am a music lover.

3.  After taking lessons, did you quit?  Why did you quit taking lessons?(lack of interest or circumstances?)
I took lessons til age 11. then we moved to a different city. I could'nt find a teacher, and also got busy with school and friends.

4.  If you did quit, did you decide to take lessons again?
after i "quit" and we moved, i waited about 4 or 5 years to start playing again. But no lessons. I just retaught myself. Once you read notes, it sticks :)

5.  And did you regret not taking lessons at an earlier age?
no. I started young enough. i despise 3 year olds who can play Debussy. i believe that younger that 5 is too young unless they express a desire. But really....most 3 year olds play with dolls and dig in the dirt. :) They are kinda cute when they play tho.

1.  What age did you start taking piano lessons?

At age 4

2.  Was it forced?(like did your parents make you)  Or did you have a desire to?

Yes, it was, but I didn't mind learning.

3.  After taking lessons, did you quit?  Why did you quit taking lessons?(lack of interest or circumstances?)

I quit at age 8. This was mostly because I never practised and I got bored. Also, piano wasn't the 'cool' thing to do, and I thought I'd rather watch TV than practise piano.

4.  If you did quit, did you decide to take lessons again?

Yes. Just before I started high school, I started to teach myself songs from my choir books. I enrolled in the music class at school and came up against what I considered to be a wonder pianist. He was maybe grade 4 or 5, compared to my 2, and I felt both overshadowed and in awe. I resolved to take lessons and to be able to play as well as him. It took half a year to find a teacher that wasn't too expensive, but I did.

5.  And did you regret not taking lessons at an earlier age?
I regret not continuing the lessons. Come that first music class, I could've been better than him!
I'd also be at a much higher level now, because I had to relearn everything I'd forgotten in the 5-6 years I wasn't playing.

Hi, Go.  My piano lesson life story:

1.  14
2.  I had the desire to.
3.  I quit about a year into college.  I just didn't feel like taking lessons anymore, but I had not lost my desire to play.
4.  I haven't taken lessons since.
5.  No.

1.  I start taking piano lesson at 12

2.  My parents did not force me. I want it myself, and once my father able to buy Petrof I start taking lesson. This lesson was about 2 years.

3. I quit when I have to go to another city for high school. There I take lesson again and practicing at my piano teacher for 3-4 times/week. This lesson for about 3 years. Then I quit again for focussing on my architecture college

4.  After I graduated college I go to another city where I can live with my aunt. Here I can bring my petrof. And then I start to take lesson again for about 3 years.

5.  Yes I regret not having piano since 4-5 years old. I really not good in hearing.

Now I teach 4-5 years old group and begginer piano (about 15 students only)

So based on myself I found hard to teach student that they are forced by their parents.

1.  What age did you start taking piano lessons?
41... and I am using Alfred's Self-Teaching Adult Piano Course.
However, if the "bug" is still with me in a few weeks I will sign up for a beginner class at my local community college.

2.  Was it forced?(like did your parents make you)  Or did you have a desire to?
Just woke up one morning and said, "Hey, I've done a lot of other things/hobbies in my life, but I think it's about time I learned to play an instrument."

3. N/A
4. N/A
5. N/A

Thanks,
AC

Cool!  Keep on learning!  It will be rewarding indeed.  Also, use the Piano Adventures for the Accelerated Beginner;  has great stuff in it.

best wishes,
