I have been into this profession for quite some time. As a private music teacher, I find it easier to perform my duties with the help of my own website and music teaching blog.

Anyone here who have their own?

I would say it is essential. I built my website before I started my private teaching practice but redesigned it four years ago to attract new students when I also begun the process of SEO - search engine optimisation. Four years down the line I now have a blog (at the recommendation of a parent of one of my students) , web gallery and a podcast feed to display examples of my student's work.
95% of new students now find me through the website and I am oversubscribed with a waiting list. It takes a while for parents to get the idea but now many expect me to post useful information i.e exam times/fees, important dates etc on the website and use it as there first port of call before asking me.
I am also experimenting with twitter from a marketing angle, exploring the benefits for a music teacher.

Absolutely! I have completely built my business from my website. I'm in the process of migrating my content to a new, redesigned website (with a blog), but the info about my teaching studio will remain about the same.

I know I wouldn't have half the students I have if they hadn't found me through a Google search.
