- Did you know Australia lost a war against Emus?

Emu War: how Australia lost a war against birds

The Emu War, also known as The Great Emu War, was a week-long military operation undertaken in Australia in November 1932 to address public concern over the number of emus said to be running amuck in the Campion district of Western Australia. The emus were responding to a long, hot summer, which caused shortages of food and water. The "war" was conducted under the command of Major Meredith of the Royal Australian Artillery, commanding a force of soldiers armed with two Lewis machine guns and 10,000 rounds of ammunition. But shooting blindly into a group of birds which can run up to 50 km/h (30 mph) did not brought the expected results. The birds simply ran away even after being hit by a machine gun round.

Over the course of a week or so, only a handful of the estimated 20,000 birds were actually killed. Major Meredith - the Australian commander in the "Emu war" - was astonished and famously compared the emus to Zulus. After a few days the Defence Minister ordered a withdrawal. And thus the "Emu War" ended in a military defeat for Australia.

It is a desert rat that can go without water for a long time, pet rats I don't think they can go as long.

That is crazy about the Hippo milk, I remember hearing about a "blood mucus" although it isn't blood that the Hippo can secrete from its skin to protect it from the sun. What an amazing animal!

All four are interesting, but this one seems the most like it ... though, something's not quite right.  I think there needs a little bit of a softer (Furrier?  Featherier?) and friendlier look, a different color (with tidier teeth and prettier toes), but then, yes, something even more monstery when needs be. :)

The vibrating parts of musical instruments don't make sound waves of just 1 frequency. This is because the string or forced air, doesn't just vibrate as a whole. Smaller parts also vibrate. In musical instruments the extra frequencies are called overtones. When the overtones are close to the basic frequency, your brain thinks it's a single pitch (level of sound). Different instruments have different strengths of their overtones. This is also what makes your voice sound different from someone else's, even when you sing the exact same pitch.

I found out from a friend of mine today:

Swearing is good for you, in that when you are angry, you let your emotions out. Once you have vented your anger via swearing, there is little anger left inside you. That is what pyschologists and Psychiatrists say anyway.

So the next time I am angry I will say some dirty words....

This is not correct.  Once you are angry, your emotions are already out.  There is no need to swear.

When you are NOT angry, because your emotions have been repressed, then you have no urge to swear.  Then sometimes it is useful to allow yourself to feel the anger that is internal.

But in general, your anger interferes with your ability to rationally solve your problems, and is best dealt with through cognitive methods rather than expression.  It can be very rewarding to become angry and let go a bunch of cuss words, and as we all know rewarding a behavior maintains and increases it.

- Did you know that Michael Peter Fay is an American who was sentenced to caning in Singapore in 1994 for theft and vandalism? Caning is a widely used form of legal corporal punishment in Singapore. It can be divided into several contexts: judicial, military, school, reformatory/prison, and domestic/private.

I've heard of this.  ::)

https://www.dailydawdle.com/2012/02/watch-remote-italian-village-builds.html#more

1)  Easy solution.  Just move.

2) One crazy person?  Fine.  Someone comes along and decides they'll camp out in a valley, builda house there eventually.  But the second person?  They come along and say, "Well hey... This guy's living in a valley with no sunlight.  I think I'll settle down here too and build a house."  And then the rest of them?  Yeah... The same people who later decide to put up a mirror and aren't quite sure whether it will actually have much of an effect when it's finished. (It didn't look like it did a whole lot either.)

I vaguely recall this people a little blurb story on a standardized test.  The more important element -- Not 'what type of paragraph is this?' a) Expository b) Narrative... -- No, the important part is 'Why are they all living in a valley with no sun?  And then why bother with the mirror, except that would follow some kind of strange logic that convinced them it was a good place to live in the first place.

That or they're vampires.  "Yeah, we got sun.  Come on it with our sun shining.  We won't turn it off on your and suddenly swoop down on you as vampires or anything."

I'm a mathematician. Everyday, I solve problems without emotion. I read journals and analyze them. I was trained so much that I no longer feel the emotion being repressed. It just comes in natural to be cold and calculating.

This is exactly why I'm emotional/angry in cyberspace (lol now I have a tendency to mathematically analyze why they put the "space" in that word. As in metric space? topological space? Prove why are they homologous or isomorphic to other concepts of space that you can justify putting space in there... This is what happens when I function cognitively).

Outside the internet I'm cold and emotionless. Piano is the one thing that brings emotion to me IRL. Being angry/emotional and getting into arguments in the internet gives me the comfort of experiencing them.

wait... I don't have a Did you Know??? nugget for this thread...

off the top of my head

Did you know that sometime ago, the U.S. officially released photos of the dark side of the moon which were identified to be altered? This caused some people to freak out and think of many things on why they had to do so.
