Yes, here is that story of Prokofiev in more detail. Pretty cool that these two geniuses clashed at the board.

This works, and I found the missing star.

Edit: If you got the method down, you can for example use it to see in "3d":

Love those!!!!   I was just thinking.  Would that technique work in a 3d cinema without the glasses?

Yes I think it would, but I'm not sure how much effort it would be to make. The 3d effect comes from the 2 pictures being slightly different, so maybe if the film was shown one or a few frames apart next to each other. But you'd have to look out for screen transitions, because they would destroy the effect when you suddenly have two completely different images, even only for a split second. So you'd probably have to edit the movie in such a way that the cuts are aligned, but the films are set apart a few frames. And even then it wouldn't be save to say it'll work, like for example in fast scenes vs. slow scenes, the difference might need to be changed. And there's probably more.
And don't forget, you'd need a big enough audience that knows how to do this to even make it profitable.
verdict: will not replace 3d glasses.

I thought so too, but after 20 seconds it just felt normal. That terrified me.

I really like this thread. But I'm still reading through it.

Do you know that Keith Jarrett hates coughing during his impros? Apparently everybody knows that! But I didn't and I was given cough drops on the entrance when he was playing in London because I was ill. They gave me a strange icky feeling in my mouth and didn't help at all. I ended up coughing into my sister's bra for the next two hours. Not a nice experience. Guess I should stay at home but we really didn't know! Do you guys know that?

No, but i couldn't care less about keith jarret and his divistic quirks.  When an artist (and keith jarrett IS an artist) begins to care more about HIS mood,  HIS needs,  HIS quirks, saying, selflessly, of course, that all this is for the benefit of HIS pubblic, i lose interest.

This is an interesting insight into a deaf person hearing music for the first time. I found reading about some of his journey in acquiring a musical taste very interesting.

So today I learnt that as Beethoven went deaf, he composed music by hacking the legs off his piano and sat on the floor so that he could feel the vibrations.

If he had labyrinthitis, the acoustic nerve would have eventually become useless. With a dead nerve, you cannot hear!

After my tympanoplasty, the tympanic membrane was inactive for quite a few days. I have this nice electric guitar that I would play unplugged, and I would press my left side of chin to the body of the guitar and rest my head to it. This bypassed the hearing mechanism, and let me still use my acoustic nerve. The sound was unaffected by any other noises! It was so pure, and I have never heard anything like it! (Nor will I, ever. I hope.) We don't simply connect to things, physically! Trust me, it was the most beautiful, pure sound.

I tried this with the piano. I am not sure why, but it did not work.

Regardless, without the nerve, you cannot hear again. So, depends on whether Lu's acoustic nerves were impacted.

Big mistake - with the piano you need to use the right side of your chin.

Really? Why?

Also, labyrinthitis also may be linked to gingivitis, which kills other nerves, as well. So, I think that if Beethoven's acoustic nerve was damaged, he sat on the floor to feel the sound with other nerves he had...poor guy. This breaks my heart. I think this is the saddest story I have ever heard!!!!

had Beethoven not been deaf--he would have never taken music in the direction he did.   He never had to listen to a bad performance after a while...and that at times is a blessing...lol..He could just keep composing...  in anger he purposely broke rules or maybe it wasnt anger...although he never does look very happy does he?  Even my "imaginary beethoven friend" always seems to have a scowl...  I have imagined him at the end of my piano since I started playing...44 years ago. anyhoo...  Beethoven did get to be Beethoven and the guy could PLAY.  do you really think he would be comfortable with the nearly mythic status he has achieved? if he were here today.

In the three "spot the difference" examples from a few months ago (I have only just started reading this thread) I saw the differences more quickly by ordinary systematic inspection than by the squinting and blinking method, which I found unpleasant, and which mostly just caused my eyes to go funny. Presumably this means that my brain is going to outlast my visual acuity.

It is quite common for stroke victims to lose the ability to read.

Their vision is fine, but letters and words don't mean anything, they're just shapes.

And yet, many of them can communicate by writing.  They can still write, but not read what they've written.  This includes a couple of famous published authors.

Earth has five quasi-satellites: 2010 SO16, (164207) 2004 GU9, (277810) 2006 FV35, 2002 AA29, and 3753 Cruithne. Of these, 2002 AA29 and 3753.

However, from 1996 to 2006, the quasi-satellite 2003 YN107, an asteroid of 10-30 metres in size, had a remarkable property: slow revolution about the Earth. So, in a sense, we had, for ten years, a second moon.

On another interesting note, Rhea, one of Saturn's moons, has a ring system of its own.

As well, there was a comet in 1744 with six tails, Encke's comet is a comet that circles the Earth every 3.3 years, the Great Southern Comet of 1887 had no head, the Great Comet of 1823 had two tails pointing in polar opposite directions, and on May 19th 1910, we passed through the tail of Haley's Comet, making it the second Great Comet we passed through the tale of (The other being the Great Comet of 1861, which we inside the tail of for two days).
