Student has problem making left hand soft
on: April 09, 2009, 01:19:08 PM
Hi all,

Most students including myself. How to make the left hand soft specially in Chopin Waltz. At the moment, I am working on Mendelssohn op19 no.1 E major. It looks easy but it is so hard to bring out the top note of the right hand and bass on the left but keep in the middle part quiet plus melodies super legato. changing fingering how to do it efficiently without giving lots of tension on the shoulder and hands. My hands are small I just can't hold on the top note. The phrasing is quite challenging and there are so many parts are the same, except having beautiful phrasing and tone color, the piece will become boring.

If you can get hand independence dynamic control becomes easier, I to once had that problem but as I progressed my dynamic control became better.
