Virtuoso "Piano" player video
on: June 15, 2004, 11:08:10 PM
Has anyone seen this video?  It's one of the most amazing things I've seen in a long time.  The video is of a person playing an arcade game where he presses on buttons and music comes out.  He has to time it right as the "blocks" fall.  He plays Fantasy Impromptu, Moonlight sonata 3rd mvt, Mozart's Turkish March, Arabesque 1, Fur Elise...  He's really good!  His "playing" puts mine to shame. :-[

By the way, right after the short part with debussy's arabesque, there's a really short phrase played from some other piece...

What is it??  ???

I recognized it as a scarlatti Sonata- the one Michelangeli plays in the great pianists video.

that game looks like quite the work out.  That kid must do martial arts.  Im not sure if I would have the stamina to play a round.  but, still, it's kind of cool!! We should invent a version for the computer keyboard, post the game on Piano Forum, and make a hall of fame for the members!! ;D

Do you even think it's a real game?  I was thinking that "This can't be real.  It has to be some sort of spoof or camera/audio trick."

It's gotta be real...

it's probably only in japan... or someplace aolng those lines...

...that kid would probably be a piano virtuoso if he would have spent those hours on the keyboard instead of on that game... He must have practiced forever...  ;)

Ps. Do you guys find all of my ...(dots) annoying??  ;)

Yeah I saw that video on www.ebaumsworld.com under funny or extreme video.
I didn't like the fantasie impromptu on that video machine, sounded like some freeky movie, then again it's a game machine, not a Steinway  ;D.

Yeah probably in Japan.  I saw a whole bunch of weird video games whilst my trip in Japan, and they have decent pianos too!  8)

Haha, yes, this is a real game.  People in japan are really good at these types of games with the "falling blocks."  This game is called "Pop 'N Music".  Another famous arcade game is "Beatmania" which has 5 keys instead of 9 like this arcade game.  Then there's also an arcade machine called "Keyboardmania" which plays just like any of the music games, with the falling notes/blocks.  Keyboardmania has something like 24 piano keys or something.  These games just fall into the category of music games like Dance Dance Revolution which I'm sure you all have heard of...

OH yeah!!

I've seen the keyboard one before but it was out of order. I really wanted to play it. I would have set the high score for sure...

Unless of course that kid on the video had already been there... That's probably why it was out of order.  ;)

Great!
I saw "live" a guy plays very fast on a game like this (but NO SO FAST!), but it was played with feet.

Haha, funny that I see this game...  I used to be addicted to this game...   I was pretty good too.  I played the five button game though, Beatmania.  This one that the guy is playing has 9.  But it's not that hard if you play the game a lot.  I could play songs at that speed.  You just get used to the speed.

Actually, he does wrong a few times... well, a lot of times.  Having played that game so much, I can tell where he gets wrong notes by looking at the color of the notes when they reach the bottom of the line.  He's really good though.  He covers it up really nicely.

It is the ending of Mozart's Rondo alla Turca.  It's not that fun..

Maybe you should have a listen to the whole piece "Rondo Alla Turca" before saying that.   ;)
It is the middle - ending of the piece, TRUST ME!

My friend loves Mazeppa to death, and knows almost nothing about piano. But he is a trombonist... You can't make quick assumptions. He might or might not play the piano. But if he did the piano, this wouldn't be a recording of the arcade, it's be him on a bench next to his upright.

Yeah, you can never tell who plays what just by looking at their appearance.  I loved this game to death and I've been playing piano for a looooong time now.
