Hey!
How should you sort your classical music in your musical library, like iTunes or Windows Media Player? I am currently importing a lot of my CDs and I realised that it's quite the dilemma if I should sort for example some music under Sviatoslav Richter or Johann Sebastian Bach (Das Wohltemperierte Klavier). Cuuuuz if I import it under Bach it will get fucked up if I later import WTK with another performer. And if I import under Richter it's not nice because Bach's music should be sorted under Bach :(

WHAT AN AMAZING DILEMMA EH? :P

I have no method apart from Schuman, which is in the delete bin.

It doesn't have to be Richter or Bach, you can put both, one in performer and the other in composer. At least that's what I do. I don't know if you can do that with iTunes or WMP (which I recommend you uninstall) but I use Media Monkey, Google it, it's the best there is for sorting music. You can use tags and see your music sorted by performer, composer, album, genre, year, etc. etc. etc. You can even track down files that changed directory (but only with the gold version). Sounds like I'm advertising but really, I have a big library and I have no amazing dilemmas about organizing it so far.

The way I do it is if I have a CD with only one composer on it, I sort it by composer, and I put the name of the disk and the name of the performers in Album title. If it is a disk with multiple composers, I sort the disk with the name of the performer(s). This system has worked really well for me for years.

I have no method apart from Schuman, which is in the delete bin.

I assume you mean (Robert) Schumann, the German composer everyone knows, rather than (William) Schuman, who was a fantastic American composer with a really nice piano concerto and some lovely symphonies.

maybe he means (Clara) Schumann, the wife of the German composer everyone knows who was  a good composer herself but sub-par to her husban; Schumann (Robert) and even Schuman (William)

In my opinion, Clara was even worse than Robert. She only has fame today because 1. of her husband and 2. of her status as a woman. I think she really hasn't contributed anything significant to music. I can actually listen to and like a few pieces by her husband, but her music is rubbish. I like William Schuman (1 n at the end) more than both of them, despite him being over 100 years later. I haven't heard any Georg Schumann, but I've seen some of his music.

I don't have an iPod. In my computer I go directly to Music » Album » WTC - (Sviatoslav Richter); or Composer » Johann Sebastian Bach, or Artist » Sviatoslav Richter.
