Alexander Rosenblatt's Third Sonata
on: June 25, 2009, 07:24:58 AM
Hi everyone,

I have a challenge/quest, call it what you will:

I am a piano student currently studying at a conservatorium, with a passion for non-mainstream repertoire. Thus, I have an extensive score collection which I have amassed over some time. However, despite my best attempts, I have been unable to procure the score of Alexander Rosenblatt's Third Piano Sonata. Alexander Rosenblatt is a one of the new wave of "contemporary" Russian composers, comparable to Kapustin in his idiom, in that, crudely oversimplifying, mixes jazz with classical music. Could anyone please help me out, be it refer me to someone else, or have any suggestions as to where I might be able to obtain (be it free, bought online, etc.) a copy of this fantastic work? In exchange, should you wish to have anything, I'd be happy to give you whatever works are in my power to obtain/currently in my collection.

Regards,
thetamman

Try contacting Nikolai Tovarev here: https://www.nikolaitokarew.de/en/biography.html

He could probably tell you where to get the score.

Your best bet is to ask Malcolm Ballan on the pianophilia forum.

He is an exceedingly nice and generous man, and probably has more Russian scores than anyone else on the Planet.

I actually asked him if he had it when I first saw this thread  ;D

BTW, he does not have it, he said he will look for it and if he can find it he will post it on the Russian/Soviet composers Misc. thread.

Sorry if it sounds like I am advertising for pianophilia  :P

Thanks for all your suggestions

Try contacting Nikolai Tokarev here: https://www.nikolaitokarew.de/en/biography.html

Yes, I have tried contacting Nikolai Tokarev, as well as Alexander Tselyakov, but am yet to receive a reply. Does anyone else have any ideas, or would perhaps help me out via contacting a person who may have/tell me where to get/ be able to sell me the score? It's disappointing, as why compose such great music if you're not going to be making it available via a music publisher for people to play:(? I haven't checked on pianophilia, but if anyone could ask any of the maestros there about Rosenblatt's Third Sonata, that would be greatly appreciated.

thetamman

Hi there,

I'm actually not a pianist but a clarinetist. I was interested in the Carmen Fantasy piece and e-mailed the composer directly: rosenblatt2005@rambler.ru and he was very helpful. I found that information here: https://www.classicalarchives.com/composer/3248.html which is about the only info I can find on him at all!

Cheers

Great news, just spreading the word, the third sonata is now apparently available in print from Schott's:).
