RCM Handbook for Teachers
on: July 17, 2009, 01:10:18 AM

I recently considered buying the RCM Handbook for Teachers (Celebration Series Perspectives), but I didn't know if the price was worth it. I am in Grade 9, but I do not play much from the RCM Repertoire, but what is interesting to me is the leveling of the pieces (1-5 stars for difficulty).

Do you think I should buy it?
Bach: Toccata BWV 914
Beethoven: Sonata op. 57
Liszt: HR 12
Rachmaninoff: Prelude op. 32 no. 12
Prokofiev: Suggestion Diabolique
Liszt: La Campanella
Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto no. 2, op. 18

Does it rate each in comparison to other pieces at that level?  Like would there be 5 star grade 1 pieces, and 1 star grade one pieces?

If so... sounds intriguing :P
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

I've glanced at them and they contain a lot of analysis, historical context, and teaching suggestions.

Personally I have never bought one.

I find the almost double price increase in from the previous piano syllabus to the current one a bit ridiculous.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
