Technique Question
on: July 17, 2009, 02:24:10 AM
I was wondering this randomly-is there any piece that requires a technique that isn't really applicable anywhere else? Something that's pretty much useful for only that one piece? I know since there's so much repertoire out there that's pretty much impossible, but it struck me as interesting. Anything that's used very rarely?

Octave glissando's - only found in a rare few pieces... two of which I have to bloody well learn - the Paganini variations by Brahms and Stravinsky's 3 Movements from Petrouchka.

I'm sure there are a few parts like that in Réminiscences de Don Juan by Liszt.
