Chopin Vs. Liszt

I love both composers, yet I can't decide whose peices are more difficult. This is just for your opinion. Don't go count the number of 8+'s on each composers song list.

Personally, I think this is somewhat moot.
Both Chopin and Liszt were working on advancing the technique and boundries of pianistic technique, along with the advancement of the craft of piano manufacturing.

They each have offered the world a wonderful set of very difficult studies, and to place them on one side or the other seems pointless, to me.

Have fun

Chopin in my opinion. is a much more difficult composer to play, because not only are his pieces technically difficult but they are also so mucically difficult and they contain a depth that liszt, does not have. Yet liszts pices are thcnically much more demanding.

(Chopin) contain a depth that liszt, does not have.
*cough* Bmin Sonata, Years of Pilgrimage, Faust Symphony, most late works.
Yet liszts pices are thcnically much more demanding.
*cough* Etudes, Ballades, bmin Sonata - definitely passages in any of these to rival Liszt.

This really is a stupid question, although it's not the first in a long long LONG list of these pointless threads!

The Chopin etudes are not as hard as the Paganini etudes, transcendental etudes etc... (from my understanding). The ballades do have some hard technical passages and are technically challenging but I think the main difficulty is making them sound convincing and original. The B minor sonata is very hard  :'(

I really do hate these arguments, and I shouldn't have said anything in the first place.  (But the ignorance of that post annoyed me - sorry)
