Keeping Track of Accidentals

A few questions about sight reading.  I'm a long time player, but a fairly recent sight reader.

How does one keep track of the accidentals from one bar to another.  I play both jazz and classical.  Remembering the key signature is one thing.  But being thrown different sharps every few measures and then just as quickly having them taken away is a handful.

There's nothing wrong with adding marks to your sheet music if that helps. And a lot of the time (but not always) your ear will tell you if you're playing a wrong note.

Have you ever tried this marking:  pencil in a long   L__________________     shaped line from the first occurance of a flat or sharp (or natural) and then stop the line right where the flat or sharp occurs again.
