Aural tests for ABRSM Grade 8?
on: October 23, 2009, 09:11:19 PM
I initially started this thread in the Students' Corner board, but I decided it would be more appropriately placed here. I'm taking my ABRSM grade 8 exam in a month, so I know it's a bit late to begin thinking about this, but I find the aural tests for grade 8 very difficult. For those who don't know, the tests are a) singing/playing the bass line of a short phrase, b) identifying the last four chords of a phrase, c) singing a melody with the examiner playing a higher accompaniment, and d) discussing the style, texture, tonality, mood, etc. of an excerpt played by the examiner. Of these, d) is the only thing I can do credibly, since I listen to classical music all the time. Do you guys have any suggestions as to how I can practice tests a)-c)? Are there perhaps any ear training sites that may help?

Thanks,
Kelly
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.
